Contract Training Courses
The Washington State Labor Education and Research Center (LERC) training courses are often highly customized to mesh with how unions are structured and working to organize. Most unions utilize a combination of LERC consulting, curriculum development, and trainings, and the price may vary depending on factors like the amount of customization needed, the topics and specificity of the training, the number of trainings and participants, and other needs.

Training Offerings

1-4 hour training
Short standalone trainings on basic topics, often used for trainings with rank and file union members or stewards. Common topics often include things like 1:1 organizing conversations, mapping your workplace, identifying leaders, and more. Available in person, on zoom, or hybrid.

Full Day Training
Full day sessions that can encapsulate trainings and/or workshops on multiple topics. Often used for stewards, leaders, and staff to discuss in-depth topics like grievance handling, campaign planning, running local unions, and collective bargaining. In person preferred. Upon request, the LERC can organize space and food for trainings.

Multi-Week Training Series
The LERC’s most popular training modality, since most unions prefer to have ongoing support and training for member leaders and staff. Pricing based on hourly training rates, modified with additional consulting and curriculum development. Available in person, on zoom, or hybrid.

Consulting
Expert advice from LERC Educators, who bring experience as union organizers and labor educators. Discussion topics can vary widely depending on the client’s needs. Common topics include best practices in internal organizational practices, designing strategies for successful organizing campaigns and leadership development, planning education and staff development, and more.

Curriculum Development
Time spent adapting curriculum to an organization’s particular needs. Includes using examples from the union’s workplaces and CBAs, and ensuring that the training material dovetails with the organizations’ specific organizing practices. Used to ensure programs are closely customized to the organization’s needs.

Custom Training Programs
The LERC has experience working with unions to design large-scale programs geared toward organizational change that often incorporate curriculum development, organizational change planning, conference planning, and more.
